Finding the Next Right Thing
Autoimmune diseases have become an epidemic, especially in the US. It’s now estimated that 1 and 10 Americans has an autoimmune disease, and there are not over 100 recognized autoimmune disease. A number than has doubled in the last twenty years.
Children are not spared. In fact, children born in the last ten years have the highest rates of chronic illnesses, autoimmune diseases, and neurodevelopment disorders than any previous generation. They are also the first generation expected to have a shorter lifespan than their parents. We cannot continue what we’ve been doing. Those of us with an autoimmune disease are paying the price of our modern lifestyle.
So what can we do?
We can look for root causes and triggers, instead of quick fixes.
We can use more herbal medicine and nutraceuticals that support our bodies ability to heal itself.
And, we can educate ourselves about things that could be making us sick and remove those as much as possible.
Finding the Next Right Thing is a resource for parents searching for the next right thing in their child’s health journey, whether that is battling PANS/PANDAS or another autoimmune disease or fighting a genetic predisposition towards autoimmune diseases. These conditions don’t develop overnight and they will not subside that quickly either. Just take it one step at a time.
Wishing you Hope, Healing & Transformation
the humble dandelion.
In herbal medicine, the dandelion is a powerful herb for detoxification. Known as a “blood purifier” it helps clear out toxins, creating space for healing and balance. But, it’s not a quick fix—dandelion is meant to be taken long term, gently guiding the the body back to homeostasis. In today’s world, where we are exposed to so many environmental and internal stressors, the need to “clean out the bad stuff” has never been more important. That’s why dandelion has become part of my daily wellness routine and one of my favorite herbs. Naturally, when I began creating this site focused on healing and herbal medicine, I wanted the dandelion to be a part of it.
But, it wasn’t until after I chose the dandelion as part of the site’s logo that I realized how deeply its symbolism aligns with the journey of those navigating PANS/PANDAS or other autoimmune disease—whether for themselves or their children. The dandelion itself is often seen as a symbol of resilience, hope and transformation. It’s a plant that can thrive in the harshest environments, finding a way to flourish despite challenges. Its delicate white seeds, drifting away on the wind are symbols of potential— a new beginning, a hope for growth, and the spreading of wishes for the future.
Those scattering seeds also represent the journey of healing and transformation. Sometimes, it means letting go of what no longer serves you, trusting that the steps you’re taking, however small, are planting something meaningful that will take root and grow in ways you might not expect.
